Banzai- KuPS Fan Club:

Banzai - KuPSin Supporters supports, quite surprisingly, KuPS - Kuopion Palloseura -
a football club from Kuopio, Finland.

KuPS were founded in 1923 and hold the 4th place in all-time table of the Finnish premier
league (called Veikkausliiga since 1991).

KuPS have played in the top flight for 49 seasons and claimed five league (1956, 1958, 1966,
1974, 1976) and two cup (1968, 1989) titles. In addition to that KuPS have finished second
eight times (1950, 1954, 1964, 1967, 1969, 1975, 1977, 1979), third at 1953 and claimed
numerous junior titles.

KuPS have represented Finland eight times in European Cups:

1967-68 Champions' Cup: KuPS-St. Etienne (France) 0-2, 0-3
1969-70 Cup Winners'Cup: KuPS-Academica Coimbra (Portugal) 0-0, 0-1
1975-76 Champions' Cup: KuPS-Ruch Chorzow (Poland) 2-2, 0-5
1976-77 UEFA Cup: KuPS-Öster IF (Sweden) 3-2, 0-2
1977-78 Champions' Cup: KuPS-FC Brügge (Belgium) 0-4, 2-5
1978-79 UEFA Cup: KuPS-B1903 Copenhagen (Denmark) 2-1, 4-4
and KuPS-Esbjerg (Denmark) 0-2, 1-4
1980-81 UEFA Cup: KuPS-St. Etienne (France) 0-7, 0-7
1990-91 Cup Winners'Cup: KuPS-Dynamo Kiev (Soviet Union) 2-2, 0-4

In 2005 the Banzai club had 130 registered members and plenty of free-riders trying to help
our yellow-black team from the stands. During the last few seasons our lads and ladettes
have followed KuPS to all official matches and at home in Väinölänniemi stadium you can find
us from the west end of the main stand or having pre and post-match pints in pub Pannuhuone.

Although Banzai was not founded until 2000 KuPS have had more or less active supporters'
clubs since the 70s. In addition to our hometown Banzai has active branches at least in
Helsinkiand Jyväskyläas well as ex-patriate members from different corners of the world
(England, Sweden etc.).
